Log II

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

I’m about to take my modem in for medical evaluation. We have a warranty with our phone company, so if it just needs repair they’ll fix it. So we decided to check that out before buying a new one. The unfortunate thing is that it means I may be totally without email or Internet for 24 hours. **gasp!** Think of me often during this very difficult period. This of course means that tonight, after the girls go to bed, David and I will be sitting in our office, staring at our computers in shock and depression. Then we may have to actually leave the office and have like a conversation or something. **gulp**

Three Link Thursday

Friday, June 23rd, 2006

Today, I went berry picking with my girls. We’ve done this every summer since they were two (three whole years!) and so it’s a tradition now. Our favorite berry farm (which will remain unnamed because I’m selfish, but I’ll tell you if you really want to know) is not officially open for u-pick business until July 1, but they allowed the girls and me to come. We picked just for fun today and only picked white and red currents which sparkled in the sun like jewels. We eyed the blueberries bushes, heavy with green gems. Two more weeks!

We took a little walk by the woods on the property, listening to the birds and admiring the quiet beauty. I said, “Hush girls! Listen! Sounds like a little brook!” They listened. Sydney says, “Yeah, or it could be an animal going potty.” Um. Ok. Five-year-olds are realists. Except for the other 90% when they’re not.

——

Two of my favorite recipe sites: here and here. Type “berries” in the search and make something nummy! I made a mixed berry pie today for Sabbath dinner tomorrow. Num.

——

Speaking of walking in the country, here’s a neat site about — country walking. You can pick from walking tours around the world, but the Volcanoes & River Gorges tour in Oregon and Washington is like looking at home (did I mention I’ve seen every Mt. St. Helen’s blast — since 1980, that is — except for the ones at night, I’m not that good). I love the photo they have at this link, it’s Oneonta Falls, which is one of my very favorite hikes and is one of the world’s most beautiful places. You have to hike through a stunningly beautiful gorge to get there, sometimes through the water. I haven’t done it since I was a child, but the photo makes me ache to go back.

——

And lastly, this one, just because. You’ve probably seen it before, but you can’t help but giggle when you see it, which is just what I needed today. (Thanks to JD who sent it to me.)
